Wii 3- Point Shot Champ!

I finally beat Harrington at one of the Wii games. We played golf, tennis, and table tennis all which he had very little patience in teaching me how to play. He forgets I have a job in addition to all the other things a Mom and Wife does therefore I don't have the luxury of playing video games for extended periods of time. I was so elated to finally beat him this afternoon.

Rain! Rain!

It finally rained at our house this afternoon. Lord knows our plants and grass needed it. We get excited when it rains in the Valley of the Sun,since our average annual rainfall is only 4.5 inches

In Arizona, as in other regions of the world including India and Thailand, we experience a monsoon, a season of high temperatures, high winds, and high moisture, resulting in potentially deadly weather.

The term "monsoon" comes from the Arabic "mausim" meaning "season" or "wind shift."

Serious damage can occur from high winds, or from debris being tossed by those high winds. It is not unusual for trees to be downed, power lines to be damaged, and roof damage to occur.

When such high volume rain descends upon the Valley of the Sun, the ground and most especially the surface streets flood. Most roads in the area are not built to drain water quickly since such rain is too rare to justify the extra costs involved in constructing an elaborate drainage system. Quite often the rain pools on streets during and for a few hours after monsoon storms causing dangerous driving conditions.

Tea Cakes

Today for our Sunday dessert I decided to make a batch of Tea Cakes. They are one of our favorite litte treats. The family will savory every morsels since I probably only make about two batches a year.

I have fond memories of my Big Mama's (Fannie Rochelle)Tea Cakes. My most vivid memory is that of her handprint stamp in the delicous buttery treat. I had to move to Flagstaff,AZ to learn how to make Tea Cakes. A very special and dear friend Lennie Hammond, who is also a native of Louisiana taught me the art of making a good Southern Tea Cake. Thanks Len

A Little Background On Tea Cakes…

Southern food historians say tea cakes evolved from an English recipe brought to America by British settlers in the 18th century. They were known as “little cakes” and were served with afternoon tea, but are called tea biscuits in Britain today.

The basic recipe was passed by word-of-mouth for generations. Unlike the English, Southerners made the cakes for snacks or special occasions, especially at Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter. Each cook added special ingredients, such as molasses or grated lemon rinds and spices.

Wii

We had so much fun playing with the Wii at Mom's during vacation. We decide to purchase one this weekend. Harrington and I had a blast bowling. He spent more time creating our little family avatars, which are simply darling. Henry's has a baldhead and mine even has a beauty mark on left cheek. We are sure to build lots of family memories and get fit with our new Wii. Harrington and I will master all the games before the Peasons come in Decemeber. We can't let them beat us at our own games :)

Happy Birthday to ME!

Well today my twin sister Amelia and I are a year older and wiser. I'm so thankful and blessed to share this day with my bestest friend. Prayerfully one day we 'll be able to celebrate this special day together.
Thanks to all my family and friends who called or sent an email to wish me a Happy Birthday today. Your thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated. Thanks for the Love!

And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years...Abraham Lincoln

NBA Summer League

Henry and I attended the NBA Summer League games on Wednesday in Las Vegas. The Summer League showcases the NBA's fresh talent. Many of the players are rookies along with first and second year players from their respectful team. Henry enjoyed the games but I did the most cheering :)

Quad Driving Lessons

Harrington was all smiles when Pops let him ride his quad. Hmh! Dad didn't bother to ask me if I wanted to ride. I don't suppose he remembers what happen the last time I was on a mini-bike. It was many years ago but I still have the scar as a reminder.
